988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline
Anyone experiencing a mental health or substance use issue can call 988. Counselors on the other end of the hotline are trained in handling a wide range of mental health issues, including self-harm, addiction and suicidal ideation
The 988 Lifeline will offer 24/7 access to trained counselors who can help people experiencing a suicidal crisis, substance use, and other mental health crises. This will open the door for millions of Americans to seek the mental health help they need and send the message to the country that healing, hope, and help are happening every day.
Anyone in the United States can text or call 988 to reach trained counselors who can help them cope with a mental health emergency, and direct them to additional resources for mental health and substance use treatment.

It is important to have a plan in place before a crisis occurs.
If you or a loved one is in immediate danger calling 911 and talking with police may be necessary. It is important to notify the operator that it is a psychiatric emergency and ask for an officer trained in crisis intervention or trained to assist people experiencing a psychiatric emergency.
