NAMI CA – CARE Act Support Referral Form (for Behavioral health, Self-Help Center, Law Enforcement, & Judicial Council)- NAMI California is currently developing a referral form for supporting For Behavioral Health, Self-Help Center, Law Enforcement, & Judicial Council to notify NAMI CA, enabling us to provide support to individuals in these areas without a local NAMI Affiliate in connection with the CARE Act. This referral form aims to support families and peers within counties without a local NAMI Affiliate in connection with the CARE Act. We will have this available on the NAMI CA CARE Act webpage.
CARE Act TTA Updates: - Upcoming Training and Technical Assistance : Role of Public Guardians & Conservators in Petitioning Training and Subsequent Open-Forum – October 29 and October 30 at 12 p.m.
- This is a comprehensive training on the CARE process tailored for public guardians and conservators. This session will cover eligibility, the petition process, and the role of public guardians in collaborating with stakeholders. Participants will also gain insights into best practices through a panel discussion and Q&A. The training is scheduled for Tuesday, Oct 29th at 12:00 p.m. PT, followed by an open-forum discussion on Wednesday, Oct 30th at 12:00 p.m. PT.
- This is an in-depth training on the CARE process designed for the justice system. The session will cover eligibility, the petition process, and the justice system's role in collaborating with stakeholders. A panel discussion will highlight best practices and replicable strategies, followed by a Q&A open-forum. The training will take place on Monday, Nov 4th at 10 a.m. PT, with the Q&A on Tuesday, Nov 5th at 10 a.m. PT. - There was a new page that was launched on the CARE Act Resource Center website, consolidating key resources for petitioners. The CARE Act Resources for Petitioners page and a Family Resource Guide, located under the Resource Library in the website’s Navigation bar, provides essential tools for completing petitions, information for specific petitioner types, and CARE Act basics. These resources remain accessible in both the training and resource libraries as well.
- New Resource: Brief: Senate Bill 42 Amendments
- Senate Bill (SB) 42 amends the CARE Act by allowing facilities to refer individuals on involuntary holds to county Behavioral Health agencies if they may meet CARE criteria. It enables communication between CARE courts and referring courts for pending cases and requires petitions for temporary conservatorships to confirm all alternatives, including CARE, were considered. The bill clarifies evidence for CARE petitions, extends county reporting deadlines, and ensures petitioners who are family members receive ongoing case updates. For more details, see the full brief.
